Islamia College was originally located at the Habibia mosque complex, but the committee at the time decided to acquire the present-day campus from the government and build a college campus for the Islamia family. The campus was designed with separate blocks for senior boys, senior girls, and primary school students. However, the committee recognized the importance of a Salah facility, as with any Islamic complex and decided to build a mosque, primarily for the students and staff of the Islamia Campus, while also making it accessible to the community. The location of the mosque was debated, with suggestions to place it in the middle of the campus or on the eastern side. Ultimately, it was decided to build it at the corner of Imam Harun and Dale Road, as it would not interfere with the functioning of the school college complex and would be easily accessible to the local and extended community. Plans were drawn up, and a single committee member took on the responsibility of ensuring that the mosque was going to be built. While others were involved in developing the school complex, this committee member contacted various people in the country to seek aid in building the mosque. After a few days, a family in Cape Town expressed interest in building the mosque, but with a single condition: it needed to be redesigned, and not built according to the plans presented to them. A senior member of the family then took the committee and the project consultants to Johannesburg to visit several mosques and observe their flow and functionality. With this knowledge, new design plans were drawn up and with the approval of the committee the project commenced. The Project construction stood at a cost of over 4.5 million at that time. At the start of construction, the Masjid was fortunate to receive visits from two prominent Imams, Sheikh Abdul Rehman Al Sudais and Dr. Sheikh Saud Al Shuraim, both from the Grand Mosque Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah. These two Imams each laid one of the first foundation stones and made du’ah for the success of the Masjid. The Masjid however still had no name, the committee was considering calling it the Islamia College Mosque but Dr. Sheikh Saud Al Shuraim recommended and insisted the name Masjid al-Furqaan,be used, this (as we all now today) was ultimately chosen. Thanks to the generous donations of the Donor Family, the Masjid was built within a year, with no external funding required. Upon completion, it was handed over to the Islamia School Family, and it has since become an integral part of the campus and community. Masjid officially opened by the former vice president of the 2 holy mosques, Dr Sh Muhammed Al Khuzaim.
