'Whoever, fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith and

hoping for a reward from Allah,

then all his past sins will be forgiven.

[Abu Hurairah]

Bismillahir rahma nir rahim
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

A person's intention when fasting is to bring him/herself closer to Allah.

Niyyah (Intention) for Fasting in Ramadhan.
Nawaitu sawma ghadin 'an adaa-i fardhi Ramadhaana hadhihis-sanati lillaahi ta'aalaa.
O Allah, I intend to fast for this day in order to perform my duty towards You in the month of Ramadhan of the present year.

Du'aa for Breaking the Fast,

Allaahumma laka sumtu wa 'alaa rizqika aftartu.
O Allah! For You have I fasted and upon Your sustenance have I broken my fast.
